DescriptionWaitangi is a place of national importance, it was here on 6 February 1840 that the Treaty of Waitangi was first signed between 45 Maori chiefs and Captain William Hobson.
The Treaty House at the edge of the main lawn was originally the home of James Busby.
In 1932 it was purchased with 400ha of surrounding land by Lord Bledisloe and presented to the nation as a historic reserve.
