      MYSTERY CREEK FIELD DAY — HAMILTON

      On Wednesday 13 June nineteen Year 12 Horticulture students and two teachers set off to the
      Annual Mystery Creek Field Day event at Hamilton. With two vans and a trailer of[...]g the evening we went to the movies.

      On the Thursday we were at the field day by 9am for the day’s events and displays to unfurl

      The first day was a local day, which involved taking a look around our surroundings, and building teamwork. The
      next day we travelled up the mountain to carve up the slopes either on skis or snowboards.

      The third day we went back onto the mountain, this time to camp. We caught the chair lifts halfway up and walked
      through the ski field to where we camped. On the way we did mountaineering skills with our ice axes. W[...]ed back to our vehicle in the morning. Later that day we went caving.

      Gateways is an initiative supported by Skill New Zealand and implemented by 24 secondary
      school’s nation wide. Bay of |slands College is one of four Northland schools to provide this 2-
      year pilot programme. Gateways offer a transitional work pased training program[...]elf-motivated to register their interest with Gateways staff and prepare
      themselves to be job ready. Th[...]embarking on a career in forestry.

      Mr Mead left Bay College at the end of term two. In his place to take up the challenge, Miss
      Reihana was appointed as the Gateways Co-ordinator to lead the team in assisting students.

      Next day we went to the Bay of Islands (as should be my home for a year). | was sleeping the whole way because

      my flight was 36 hours and | didn’t sleep on the plane.

      My arrival in the Bay of Islands was positive. All the people were kind to me and[...]ody would want to speak to me. But then the Wednesday came where | should start my
      |[...]wanted to do.

      All my thoughts were just to get away from there. Home, Home ... Just home to all the normal things, but there

      was no way back. | had decided to take the challenge to be away from home and take all adventures, and here my

      f[...]at a nightmare! But, | survived it, and it's now okay to ride in the bus with all the

      cool people from[...]home | wasn’t prepared to go to school the next day, so | took a day off because all the other people

      had Careers Day.

      Friday, school again and | was excited to go. It was okay and | found my whanau class and so on.

      player, Janine Clifford, managed[...]rei. The tournament was run just prior to College Day, which happened to be the date for the
      Northland[...]ended up 2™ overall. Twelve players
      represented Bay College at the Championships and “well done”[...]a win or two.

      Table tennis contiunes to grow at Bay College and we’re looking forward to having 60+[...]nd Mr Scott for giving up their lunch times and always giving the kids a hiding
